CHIA Partners with Just Water

According to the World Health Organization over 65% of the world population lacks access to potable drinking water.  Due to this problem 1.8 million people die every year from diarrhoeal diseases (including cholera); 90% are children under 5, mostly in developing countries. 88% of diarrhoeal disease is attributed to unsafe water supply, inadequate sanitation and hygiene.  According to UNICEF, 1 child dies every 15 seconds due to water born diseases.

"Water and Sanitation is one of the primary drivers of public health. I often refer to it as "Health 101", which means that once we can secure access to clean water and to adequate sanitation facilities for all people, irrespective of the difference in their living conditions, a huge battle against all kinds of diseases will be won."
Dr Lee Jong-wook, Director-General, World Health Organization.

For many years Christian Hands in Action (CHIA) and Dr. John Sherman have been looking for a system that could be used in many of the villages that CHIA visits.  CHIA is now extremely pleased to partner with Just Water.  Just Water was started by Ron Mathis (of Allen, Texas) and has worked with Texas Baptist Men for years.  Ron has designed multiple water filtration systems that provide for safe potable water.  The main system that CHIA has become excited about is the Drip System.  This system requires no electricity or water pressure.  Each system is easy to put together and more importantly the system is easy to maintain and very affordable. The filters have been Certified by Architectural Food Laboratory and cleared by John Hopkins.

The system can produce over 400 gallons of potable drinking water a day.  The system can clean any type of contaminated water (excluding salt water) from rivers, lakes, and even sewage water.  Dr. John Sherman and CHIA have come up with a plan that can provide drinking water for ALL the locations we visit.  The plan is based around the local church.  Our plan is to set one large drip system in each church under the supervision of the pastor.  The church will then allocate a time for any and all people to come by and get clean drinking water.  At that time the local pastor will provide the clean water, at no charge, but then will talk with them about the "Living Water" in Jesus Christ.  Additionally, the pastor will keep a log of who is coming each day.  If the pastor, under the supervision of CHIA, sees that a family has continued to come every day for water, we can then provide a home drip system that the family can use right in their home.
With the type of figures mentioned above you can't help but think "What kind of impact can I make?" The story that comes to mind is the one about the boy and the starfish.

A man was walking along a deserted beach at sunset. As he walked he could see a young boy in the distance, as he drew nearer he noticed that the boy kept bending down, picking something up and throwing it into the water. Time and again he kept hurling things into the ocean. As the man approached even closer, he was able to see that the boy was picking up starfish that had been washed up on the beach and, one at a time he was throwing them back into the water.
The man asked the boy what he was doing, the boy replied, "I am throwing these washed up starfish back into the ocean, or else they will die through lack of oxygen. "But", said the man, "You can't possibly save them all, there are thousands on this beach, and this must be happening on hundreds of beaches along the coast. You can't possibly make a difference." The boy smiled, bent down and picked up another starfish, and as he threw it back into the sea, he replied.
"I made a huge difference to that one!"

We can make a huge difference for those we meet in Mexico!  We are asking everyone to partner with us as well and help provide a difference for those we serve. You can start and provide a Drip System that will produce over 400 gallons a day for a small investment of only $275.00. The filters will generally last 6 months before needing to be changed.  To change the filters it would only be an additional cost of $100.00. For an entire year you can provide clean drinking water for a church and village for only $375.00.  To provide and start a Home Unit the cost is only $40.00 with a filter replacement every 6 months at only $20.00.

Any size investment can and will make a huge impact.  As Christ said himself "'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." (Matthew 25:40).  Join us in making a difference with the "Living Water Project" by clicking here for more information.
